[ARCHIVED] Wheat Ridge Rec Center CLOSURE

As the spread of COVID-19 continues to gain momentum, federal, state and local agencies across the country are taking measures to minimize gatherings and help employees and the public distance themselves from each other.

In an effort to support social distancing and slow the spread of COVID-19, all Wheat Ridge Parks & Recreation facilities will be CLOSED Sunday, March 15 through Sunday, March 29, 2020. This includes the Wheat Ridge Recreation Center, Active Adult Center and Anderson Building. Additionally, all recreation classes, programs and events scheduled to occur during this time have been CANCELLED.

  • Refunds for classes, programs and events will be issued in the form of credit to your household account. We ask for your patience with us as we will be processing a much higher volume of refunds than normal and it may take longer.
  • The expiration date on all active Rec Center annual passes will be extended the length of the closure.
  • Month-to-month pass billing scheduled for Monday, March 16 will be suspended. We will be in communication with month-to-month pass members as to when billing will be reinstated.
  • Registration for summer camp is still being accepted, but registration forms must be submitted via email to Beth June at bjune@ci.wheatridge.co.us

Staff will be cleaning and disinfecting all facilities while we are closed to the public.

During this time, we will be constantly monitoring the situation and will reevaluate the need for further closures as this two-week window closes.

Additionally, the following events have been cancelled or postponed:

CANCELLED

  • St. Patrick’s Day dinner at the Active Adult Center scheduled for tonight, March 13
  • 45th annual Wheat Ridge Easter Egg Hunt at Panorama Park on Saturday, April 4

POSTPONED:

  • Make Wheat Ridge Count 2020 Census Event at the Rec Center on Saturday, April 4 will be rescheduled. Date TBD.

The health and safety of our staff and community is our highest priority. This is a dynamic situation which we will be monitoring closely and will continue to respond appropriately as new information is available. Please check back for all real-time updates during the closure and sign up for Parks & Recreation text and/or email notifications at www.rootedinfun.com/notifyme

We urge all community members to protect themselves with strong hygienic practices. While the spread of the COVID-19 around the world is of concern to all of us, it is important to remember we are also at the height of flu season. As with any respiratory virus, people should continue to incorporate simple, everyday actions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses, including:

  • Stay home if you are sick or not feeling well.
  • Clean your hands frequently with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing and sneezing, throw the tissue away and then wash your hands.
  • Avoid close contact with anyone with cold or flu-like symptoms.
  • Disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces, like doorknobs and your phone.
  • Get an annual flu vaccine if you have not had one.
