COVID-19 UPDATE

Coronavirus

As the spread of COVID-19 continues to gain momentum, federal, state and local agencies across the country are taking measures to minimize gatherings and help employees and the public distance themselves from each other.

In compliance with Governor Polis’ updated public health order, all Wheat Ridge Parks & Recreation facilities will remain closed through Thursday, April 30, 2020 and all playgrounds are closed until further notice.

Facilities include:

  • Wheat Ridge Recreation Center
  • Active Adult Center
  • Anderson Building
  • Historic Park buildings

Programs:

  • All classes/programs will be pro-rated and refunded back to your household account.
  • You will receive a follow up email from our programming staff regarding refunds for specific programs in which you or your family are registered for.
  • We again ask for your patience with us as much of our workforce is dispersed and working remotely.

Passes:

  • Active Rec Center annual passes will have their expiration dates extended the length of our closure. This will happen at a later date and you do not need to contact us.
  • Month-to-month pass billing will remain suspended during this time. We will communicate with pass members when to expect billing will be reactivated.

Rentals and permits will also be refunded.

Parks & Playgrounds:

  • Our parks, trails and open spaces remain open, but playgrounds, tennis courts, basketball courts, and the skate park are closed until further notice.
  • While we encourage you to get outside and still enjoy these spaces during this time, please respect and follow the same guidelines as other public spaces to help keep our community safe
    • If you are sick, do not visit parks and public areas
    • Practice social distancing, even in parks and on trails
    • We expect all park visitors to adhere to public health guidelines and NOT gather in groups larger than 10 until further notice
    • Bring your own hand washing supplies and/or hand sanitizer
    • Bring your own water
    • High-risk individuals should use discretion and/or follow the recommendations of your health care provider for visiting parks and outdoor spaces
    • Leave no trace, pack out what you bring in
    • Utilize trash receptacles
    • Always keep your dog on leash
    • Pick up your dog’s waste and dispose of it in a trash receptacle

The health and safety of our staff and community is our highest priority. This is a dynamic situation which we will continue to monitor closely and respond appropriately as new information is available.
